Hello Empowered Community,

October is a special month for raising awareness about cancer prevention and taking steps to improve our health. In this edition, we’ll explore the role that nutrition and fitness play in reducing cancer risks. Plus, I’m thrilled to announce a special series of STRONG Nation™ classes this October in support of a wonderful cause. Read on for details!

Nutrition and Fitness in Cancer Prevention

Did you know that the right nutrition and regular exercise can significantly reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer? Our food choices and physical activity level help protect our bodies from inflammation, support our immune system, and maintain a healthy weight, all of which are crucial for cancer prevention.

Key Nutritional Tips:

  • Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Berries, leafy greens, and other colorful fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants that protect cells from damage.
  • Increase Fiber Intake: Whole grains and fiber-rich foods like oats, quinoa, and beans aid digestion and have been linked to lower risks of colorectal cancer.
  • Incorporate Healthy Fats and Lean Proteins: Avocados, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins like chicken, fish, and plant-based options (e.g., tofu) help reduce inflammation.
  • Limit Processed and Red Meats: Studies show a higher risk of cancer when consuming too much processed or red meat, so try to reduce your intake for optimal health.

Prepping your meals with these principles in mind can make it easier to stick to a cancer-preventive diet. Simple dishes like a Green Mint Smoothie or Veggie One Pan Enchiladas can be a delicious way to fuel your body with cancer-fighting nutrients.

Fitness and Cancer Prevention:

Physical activity is equally important. Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight, boosts immune function, and lowers the risk of several cancers, including breast, colon, and prostate cancers.

  • 150 Minutes of Weekly Activity: Aim for moderate exercise like brisk walking, swimming, or dancing.
  • Strength Training: Resistance exercises can reduce body fat and improve metabolism, reducing cancer risk.
  • Daily Movement: Even simple activities like taking the stairs or walking can make a big difference.

By combining good nutrition with consistent exercise, you’ll be well on your way to a healthier, cancer-preventive lifestyle.
